OUR LOCATION

‘Knockinaam Lodge is almost from another age, like a home from an Agatha Christie novel, in a fantastic location in a private cove overlooking the sea’

You’ll find us, well signposted off the A77 road from Glasgow, through Ayr and Turnberry, then through the main ferry port of Stranraer - just north of its southerly terminus at Portpatrick, one of Scotland’s prettiest, most characterful and most popular small coastal holiday villages. At the end of a single-track lane, which winds down to 30 acres of gardens and woodland surrounded by gorse-clad cliffs. The little fishing village of Portpatrick is five miles away, the port of Stranraer, where you catch the ferry to Ireland, is eight miles from the hotel.

Knockinaam Lodge is located in the extreme South-West in the district of Dumfries and Galloway, in the county known as Wigtownshire. Its history tells of diverse ancestry. Gaels and Anglians, Norsemen and Northumbrians, Irish and Cumbrians, Scots and English all left a mark on this cornerstone of Scotland. Its history, deep and often hard to find, is etched into its villages, towns and farms and no less into its people and its hills and shores. Our county features the most southerly point of Scotland – the Mull of Galloway – well worth a visit.

Prestwick International Airport is a comfortable (and delightful) hour and a half's drive away.
