Staycations are on the up as families look for alternative holidays at home, escaping the stress of the airport, as you offload luggage and navigate the security lines before reaching your holiday destination. Avoiding traffic chaos by heading to a peaceful corner of Scotland is also a remedy to reduce holiday stress. A holiday should start as soon as you embark on the adventure of making your way to where you will call home for a long weekend or week away from normal routine.
Putting family fun at the centre of your getaway is foremost in our minds at Knockinaam Lodge. We remember fun family time when our now grown-up children explored the rock pools & built dams on our private beach. Those are precious times, when we moved here over 16 years ago to fulfil our dream of running our own luxury hotel. To be surrounded by such amazing and accessible countryside and the beach right on our doorstep, it was just heaven. We want other families to enjoy the fun that can be had from enjoying the simpler things in life, with the ones you love, building great memories.
Focus on family time this Easter
If you’ve not settled on your family’s plans for school spring break this Easter, we’re ‘hopping’ you will take a leap over to our secluded hotel retreat, that’s only 12 minutes’ from the A75 Euro Route. We promise an Easter family break that’s both fun packed and relaxingly chilled. We have been busy creating ideas with a seasonal feel as we welcome in the spring. Over the spring break children under 12 years stay for free, in parents room and we’re adding to the treats: we have a lovely hotel, in a fabulous location and we are renowned for our food and since Easter is a time for feasting, we will be laying on Easter Afternoon Tea on arrival for your family as well as High Tea for the children before the adults sit down to enjoy our famous 5-course tasting menu.
It doesn’t stop at foodie delights, we have also arranged entry for the family to a popular local attraction, Logan Fish Pond and can arrange a number of nearby family activities including Alpaca Trekking; Red Kite feeding; mountain biking at Kirroughtree and visits to the Wild Goat Park and Red Deer Range as well as Logan Botanical Gardens and Castle Kennedy.
Dumfries and Galloway – an ideal staycation getaway for families
Dumfries and Galloway is often by-passed as travellers heading up the M74 or A75, from Cairnryan to further destination north or south and that is why at Knockinaam we are trying to encourage more families to discover the delights of our area. We moved here with our young family to enjoy a more relaxed pace of life after 19 years working at top hotels in London and across the rest of the world. We were attracted by the peacefulness of Dumfries and Galloway and felt our family were safe here.
We have enjoyed many of the outdoor activities the region has to offer and feel very blessed to live and work in such a fabulous corner of Scotland. We want to share that with our guests. The scenery is amazing with so much contrast between coasts, forests and mountains. We have one of the most forested areas in the whole of Europe, providing a multitude of outdoor activities for all the family and in our lochs and out at sea we have all sorts of water sports for you to try out. There are so many events in Dumfries and Galloway too, including Spring Fling, celebrating the arts in the region; Stranraer Oyster Festival and Wigtown Book Festival. Dumfries and Galloway really has so much to offer and should not be by-passed.
